The Swedish war photographer Karin Holm sets out on a journey to document the conflict in the East of Ukraine, but twenty-four hours she spends with a young couple in Kyiv confront her life harder.
Yana Martsynkevych is a Swedish director with Ukrainian roots. She has directed several awarded short films and has recently graduated from Stockholm's Academy of Dramatic Arts. Her graduation film Lost in Kyiv won the Filmstaden Culture Foundation scholarship and Anders Sandrews scholarship 2019 - awarded to promising directors working and living in Stockholm County.
Yana currently develops her first feature film, supported by Swedish Film Institute and STHLM Debut.
She strives after visual storytelling, themes and characters that are memorable and deeply moving.
While being in between the cultures of East and West herself, her films examine identity, sense of belonging and human relationships in a globalised, yet very split world.
Yana speaks five languages and makes film in different countries.
